Are There Sex Differences in the Newborn Heart and Liver? (Newswise)

Two new studies (animals) may help explain sex-based health discrepancies found in some newborns: (1) study finds gender differences in the heart that may help show why infant girls are more likely to die following heart surgery; (2) the rapid accumulation of acid in newborn female livers may explain why pediatric liver transplants are less successful when the livers are donated from infant girls.
