At about 3:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, 2002, Allan Ekstrom was a given a second chance at life. In a near-comatose state from toxins building up due to a diseased liver, the Guilford man was in intensive care at Hartford Hospital when its transplant team learned a healthy organ was available.
